NWA World Heavyweight Championship Tournament (1994):
Eastern Championship Wrestling was an affiliate of the National Wrestling Alliance from 1992-1994. On this night on August 27th, 1994, Eastern Championship Wrestling was hosting a tournament to crown a new NWA World Heavyweight Champion. However, the night is best remembered for the shocking conclusion when "The Franchise" Shane Douglas won the tournament and threw down the title and proclaimed himself as the ECW World Heavyweight Champion. This was the last night the company was known as Eastern Championship Wrestling as the next morning the company was rebranded as Extreme Championship Wrestling and the NWA partnership was dissolved.
