ECW was founded in 1992 from the ashes of Tri-State Wrestling Alliance, a company that Tod Gordon (founder of ECW) had already been a financial supporter of from 1989-1991. TWA had folded in December 1991. Gordon bought the company from Philadelphia promoter Joel Goodhart and with the talent, ring and championships he bought he started Eastern Championship Wrestling in early '92.
