The former ECW World Television and the final ECW World Heavyweight Champion (of the original era) Rhino recently had a chance to reach the mountaintop of Impact Wrestling one more time as he squared off with Impact Wrestling World Champion Steve Maclin. However, Rhino's shot at glory saw the night end with him being packed away in to an ambulance, with a free ride to the hospital in Thursday night's episode of Impact Wrestling (May 11th, 2023)
Rhino roughed up the champion early. Maclin gained control going after Rhino's surgically repaired left knee. Maclin missed a flying headbutt which gave Rhino enough leeway to execute a superplex but Rhino clutched his knee upon impact. That very brief hesitation by the veteran allowed Maclin to have just enough time to kick out, proving even the most experienced wrestlers can have a rookie mistake here and there.
Rhino followed up with a spinebuster. Once again, Rhino's age began to show with the veteran slow on the pinfall, giving Maclin time to kick out once more. Rhino sized up Maclin for a GORE. Rhino charged at him but his knee gave way! This gave Maclin time to capitalize on Rhino's bum knee and then proceeded to use Rhino's own move - GORE! GORE! GORE! gaining him a HUGE victory.
After the match Maclin wasn't done there as he continued to go after Rhino's knee. He viciously smashed the joint with a chair and a shovel.
For what it's worth, Rhino's partner Heath had been attacked backstage by Champagne Singh and Shera, so the Redhead Rebel was unable to make the save for Rhino.
Rhino was taken away on a stretcher to a waiting ambulance for the ride to a nearby medical center. Impact Wrestling's head honcho Scott D'Amore was absolutely LIVID with Maclin and doled out a modicum of revenge. Maclin's Impact World Title defense against PCO at Impact's Under Siege event was now made a No Disqualification Match!
Maclin went back to the ambulance to finish the job on Rhino. When he opened the doors, PCO burst out for a brawl in the alleyway. Maclin then made a retreat
