Rob Van Dam Recalls Being Owed Huge Amount Of Cash By Paul Heyman and ECW

Heymqn qwqrds the WWE Championship to Rob Van Dam following perhaps his biggest moment in the wrestling world when he defeated John Cena at ECW One Night Stand in 2006 to kickstart his biggest push in history.

In the late 1990's and early 2000's there wasn't many bigger stars in ECW than "The Whole F'N Show" Rob Van Dam. Van Dam revealed that despite his success, Paul Heyman still owed him a huge sum of money toward the end there.

In the mid-to-late 1990's and early 2000's Extreme Championship Wrestling gained a huge cult following thanks to the promotions approach to action and storytelling, all during a time when professional wrestling was as non-violent as ever with WWE and WCW both hosting children's oriented characters and storylines that were cartoonish and silly.

In ECW, characters such as The Sandman, Sabu and Taz were hugely popular and helped usher in a new era of professional wrestling - a more gritty, in your face and adult oriented version of the business. Something some promotions would call "Attitude". Rob Van Dam was the longest reigning ECW World Television Champion in history, holding the title from 1998-2000.

In ECW, Paul Heyman was the man in charge, with a vision to disrupt professional wrestling and offer fans an alternative to what WWE and WCW was putting on at the time.

Rob Van Dam has now revealed that during this time, Paul Heyman was behind on payments, and owed him an upwards of $150,000.

The ECW legend was a guest on "The Ten Count" and discussed his relationship with Paul Heyman and how he had to challenge him over the missing money.

“Although he was taking care of me pretty good, it still felt like the longer I was there, the deeper hole I was digging for myself. And so, that’s why eventually I was like, ‘Look, I’m not going to be getting paid this and another type of company is going to be around much longer.’

So, when I left I think it was just before their last show if I’m not mistaken, but the very loose number though was 150 Grand.”

Van Dam suggested he would like to step back into the ring for more matches and recently was seen on TV during the 2023 WWE Draft when he appeared to read off the names of the WWE NXT Superstars who were called up to the main roster including Indi Hartwell and Grayson Waller.

Paul Heyman is currently the agent in charge of "The Tribal Chief" Roman Reigns and The Bloodline, who have been on top of WWE SmackDown for over two years now. Heyman is currently preparing ahead of Reigns challenge to take back the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships from Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn at the upcoming WWE Night of Champions PPV.
