Taz Comments on the 25th Anniversary of the FTW Championship, Thanks Tony Khan For Keeping It Alive

"The Human Suplex Machine" Taz made the championship famous during his prime in ECW in the late 1990's. The title was introduced in 1998 and was unrecognized by ECW. At the time when the title was introduced, Shane Douglas was the reigning ECW World Heavyweight Champion but was out with an injury preventing him from defending the title. Taz got sick of things and decided to create his own championship that would fit the mold of the character he was in ECW. In 2020, Taz re-introduced the championship in All Elite Wrestling (AEW) and it has remained as a prize in the promotion ever since. Taz took to Twitter to thank the fans who have supported the "outlaw" championship, as well as AEW CEO Tony Khan for keeping it's legacy going in AEW.

The FTW Championship is currently being held by Taz's son HOOK, who wrestles in AEW. Previous FTW Champions in the AEW era have been Brian Cage and Ricky Starks (both members of Team Taz). Both Cage and Starks would hold the championship for a year each (Cage from 2020-2021 and Starks 2021-2022) and now HOOK has held the title for nearly a year himself.
