Mikey Whipwreck turns 50 years old today. Following his very successful ECW career, Whipwreck continued to work the independent wrestling scene for years, on and off again. He wrestled for Ring of Honor in 2003, and a one-time appearance in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling where he teamed with The Sandman to face The Gathering (CM Punk and Julio Dinero). He later appeared at the Hardcore Homecoming ECW reunion shows, on the Extreme Reunion Tour portion of the shows, where he and Chris Chetti faced Simon Diamond and CW Anderson. Then, two days later at the first ECW One Night Stand event, he and The Sinister Minister reunited and stood in Yoshihiro Tajiri's corner in his match against Super Crazy and Little Guido. He would work for Liberty States Wrestling as an agent in 2006 and would appear on camera at the second ECW One Night Stand event celebrating in the ring after Rob Van Dam won the WWE Championship from John Cena in the main event. In 2008 he was set to wrestle in his final New England wrestling appearance where he was supposed to team with Blue Meanie to challenge for the NECW Tag Team Titles at NECW's Genesis 8 event in Quincy, Massachusetts, but missed the event due to car troubles. In September 2010, he and Scyther defeated Big Time Rush (Tony Burma and Ryan Rush) to win the NYWC Tag Team Championship. In May 2012, in Tokyo, Japan, he made his debut for Yoshihiro Tajiri's promotion called Wrestling New Classic (WNC). He teamed with Tajiri in a tag team hardcore match, where they defeated Jade and Gedo. Two days later, him and Tajiri defeated Yo-Hey and Yusuke Kodama in another tag team hardcore match in Osaka, Japan. Whipwreck's tour of WNC concluded a few days later, when he and Tajiri and Kana were defeated in a 6-man tag main event by Akira, Dave Finlay and Syui. Whipwreck returned to WNC in August, when he, Kana and Tajiri were defeated in a Barbed Wire Board Deathmatch by Akira, StarBuck and Syuri, with Akira pinning Whipwreck to get the win. Whipwreck, Kana and Tajiri were also defeated in a rematch the following day in Osaka. On September 1st, in the third and final Barbed Wire Board Deathmatch between the two teams, Whipwreck pinned StarBuck to win the match for his team. In March of 2015 he announced his intentions to "let Mikey Whipwreck fade into the past". In September of 2015 it was announced that Whipwreck would be a playable character in the upcoming WWE 2k16 video game.
