Taz's Son HOOK Defends FTW Championship on Last Night's AEW Dynamite on TBS

As we've covered over the last months, former ECW World Heavyweight Champion Taz's son wrestles for All Elite Wrestling (AEW) under the ring name HOOK. He is the current reigning FTW Champion, in his 2nd reign with the title. Last night on AEW's flagship program, AEW Dynamite on TBS, HOOK successfully defended the title against another former FTW Champion, "The Machine" Brian Cage.

Brian Cage was the first FTW Champion since it made it's return in 2020 in AEW. Taz was leading at the time a group of wrestlers called Team Taz, which consisted of Brian Cage, Powerhouse Hobbs (Will Hobbs) and "Absolute" Ricky Starks. Along with his son HOOK, who made his in-ring debut in December 2021.

Eventually, Team Taz split with all the wrestlers going into separate directions. Ricky Starks won the title from Cage in July 2021, and held the title for 378 days before he dropped it to Taz's soon HOOK in July 2022. HOOK would hold it 357 days himself before he dropped the belt to 'Jungle Boy' Jack Perry. HOOK would win the title back in August 2023 at AEW's largest event - AEW ALL IN: London 2023 - at Wembley Stadium in front of 81,035 fans. HOOK has gone on to defend the title against Wheeler Yuta and Brian Cage in his only two defenses since winning the title back. The belt has all but become an afterthought in the promotion that has several sets of titles between the AEW branded belts and the Ring of Honor Wrestling (ROH) titles that frequently appear on AEW programming from time to time. Not to mention, when the "Forbidden Door" opens and belts from other promotions make their appearances. Still, it is nice to see the old FTW Title shown from time to time to remind fans of the real impact ECW had on the business as a whole.
