Today in ECW History - February 15th:

Death(s): On this day in 1998, Louie Spicolli (pictured, above) passed away at the age of 27. Spicolli joined ECW in July of 1996 as a face and later turned heel and feuded with Tommy Dreamer. He left the company on bad terms after Paul Heyman discovered that he had been covertly negotiating with both WCW and the WWF. Before long in 1997 he would be signed by WCW as a lackey of the New World Order member Scott Hall. During his time in WCW, tragedy struck as Spicolli passed away at the age of 27 being the first real "wake up call" in the 1990s that we had a serious drug issue in the business that was taking the lives of wrestlers way prematurely. At the time of his passing, Spicolli had reportedly been stopped taking drugs after renewed fears over his health but news that his mother was terminally ill with cancer led to a relapse. Spicolli passed away on 2/15/1998, 5 days following his 27th birthday. His death was ruled an overdose on Soma and wine, choking on his own vomit in his sleep. Investigators found an empty vial of testosterone, unspecified analgesia and medication for the management of his anxiety. The Los Angeles County coroner's office determined the drugs might have contributed to his heart condition.
