Former ECW wrestler Darren Drozdov unexpectedly passed away earlier this week at the age of 54 years old.
TMZ is reporting that his family released an official statement concerning his untimely passing.
"There are no words to convey the deep sense of loss and sadness we are feeling right now. We would like to extend our deepest appreciation to everyone. All of his fans, teammates, colleagues, and friends for all the love and support he received over the years.”
"You all gave him meaning, purpose and something to live for,” the Drozdov family continued. “He loved each and every one of you and cherished the conversations, notes and letters he received. His faith in humanity never faltered, so know that for all the love you’ve shown him, he loved you back.”
It was also noted that his family's statement said Drozdov passed away due to natural causes. No other further specifics were revealed.
Tragedy struck Drozdov in October of 1999 when he endured a catastrophic injury during a match with D'Lo Brown. During a particular spot in the match, he slipped, causing the fracture of two vertebrae in his neck. This incident left him paralyzed and unable to walk the rest of his life. Nevertheless, despite this life-altering event, Drozdov continued his association with WWE, embracing new roles as a writer and columnist. He also made notable appearances on various DVD projects and appeared in the widely acclaimed series "Dark Side of the Ring".
Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this time.
