Rob Van Dam Sets Record Straight Regarding Another Run In WWE

During a recent episode of his "1 of a Kind" podcast, "The Whole F'N Show" Rob Van Dam shared that while he would be open to the idea of wrestling in WWE again, he's uncertain about what it would take to make that happen.

Van Dam expressed his hesitance to initiate contact with WWE due to the fear of rejection, which makes him reluctant to make the first move. He explained that if the phone rang and he received an offer, he would be ready to consider it. However, he doesn't intend to take the initiative because he's not sure he could handle the disappointment if they weren't interested.

“I would totally be open to it,” Van Dam said. “I don’t know what it would take for that to happen. It’s possible that it would take me picking up the phone and telling them that I want to do this in order to start the fire. If that’s what it would take, chances are next to nothing that it’s gonna happen.”

Recalling his last run with WWE that happened back in 2014, Van Dam mentioned that he felt he shouldn't have been there due to a lack of any meaningful plans for him. After expressing his frustration, WWE management assured him that if he chose to return in the future, they would ensure they had some proper plans in place and would avoid making similar mistakes with RVD. This conversation has stayed with Van Dam, indicating a potential path for his return if he decides to come back and if WWE is open to it.

“In 2014, after my 88-match run in five months, … I shouldn’t have been there — they had nothing for me,” Van Dam continued. “At the end of it, when I finally did express my feelings, one of the things that stuck out in my mind was that the boss said, … ‘That’s up to you, if you want to come back. If you do, then we’ll make sure [to] have plans ahead of time. We’ll know what we’re doing the whole time.'”

However, RVD previously admitted that WWE made him feel expendable, unlike how AEW has treated him. Nevertheless, we will have to wait and see if he will have one last run on WWE television down the line or if his 2014 run was his final with the promotion.
